Are you a culinary enthusiast or a professional chef looking to upgrade your kitchen gear? Look no further! In this blog post, we will be discussing 10 must-have chef gear items that will take your cooking experience to the next level. These items are not only essential tools for any chef, but they are also designed to enhance your culinary skills and make your time in the kitchen more enjoyable. 1. Chef's Knife: A high-quality chef's knife is the most important tool in any chef's arsenal. Invest in a knife that feels comfortable in your hand and has a sharp blade for precise cutting. I own, Wusthof, Henckels, Global, Misen, Miyabi, Forschner to name a few. For a solid, balanced, well made all around chef knife that you won't mind beating up a bit, check this out. 2. Cutting Board: A durable and easy-to-clean cutting board is a must-have for any chef. Look for a cutting board made of wood or plastic, depending on your preference. I like bamboo the best as it solid, won't warp easily and looks good at the same time. Ill link my 2 favorites 1.here and 2.here 3. Measuring Spoons: Accurate measurements are crucial in cooking. Invest in a set of measuring spoons that are easy to read and made of durable materials. As a chef I will always buy a metal set, not plastic, simply for durability. The set I currently own now can be found here. 4. Whisk: A whisk is a versatile tool that can be used for mixing, whipping, and blending ingredients. Look for a whisk with a comfortable handle and sturdy wires. Ever had a whisk wire break on you? I have all too many times in the past. I will only recommend 1 brand here, over and over again. Its Vollrath. I have used these whisks for decades and you can't buy a more solid whisk anywhere else. Click here for the link to whisk you away. 5. Spatula: A spatula is essential for flipping, stirring, and scraping ingredients. Look for a spatula with a heat-resistant handle and a flexible head for easy maneuvering. These, like many kitchen utensils, come in all shapes and sizes. You can get away with a few different styles here depending on what your focus for the tool is. I tend to lean towards a heat resistant spatula as it's the most versatile. However if you're mostly baking cookies or pastries of some sort, you probably want to pick the one that matches your decor or is just your favorite color. I'm a chef so I need functionality and performance first. My pick is here. 6. Chef's Apron: A chef's apron not only protects your clothes from spills and stains but also adds a professional touch to your appearance. Look for an apron made of durable and easy-to-clean fabric. Much of ones' decision here will come back to color/pattern and length. After years of wearing a white apron and trying to keep them clean, I will no longer go with white; EVER! Yeah lots of bleach and soaking to just throwing them out, those days are over for me. I look for a polyester/cotton blend for that "soil release" finish. My favorite, clean, no pocket, black Chef Works apron linked here. This one is good too if you are looking for pockets and a few more color options, here. 7. Oven Mitts: Protect your hands from burns with a pair of oven mitts. Look for mitts that are heat-resistant and have a non-slip grip. This one can get really fun! Not a lot of boxes need to be checked here so I really think it's personal preference on shape, color and or pattern. Before oven mitts, there were towels. Still widely used in the food industry, mitts are more of a home kitchen staple. To stick to my chef roots, this next link will show you the way to my mitt pick. 8. Stainless Steel Mixing Bowls: Mixing bowls are essential for combining ingredients and preparing recipes. Invest in a set of stainless steel bowls that are durable and easy to clean. Yeah stainless for the win! This is all we have in most of our industrial kitchens and you better believe it's what I have a home as well. Another chef brand that I'm gonna drop is available at Amazon. Its Winco. I've seen this brand time and time again, in kitchen after kitchen. Link 9. Kitchen Timer: A kitchen timer is a handy tool for keeping track of cooking times and ensuring that your dishes are cooked to perfection. Look for a timer with an easy-to-read display and multiple timing options. If any company that makes kitchen timers out there is reading this, make a "30 Minute" button! Yeah the time I would have saved in my life. Even a 10 minute increment system would be great. I like this one because it fits my stainless steel appliances and the blue background is easy to read. 10. Mortar and Pestle: A mortar and pestle is a versatile tool for grinding and crushing spices, herbs, and other ingredients. Look for a mortar and pestle made of durable materials that are easy to clean. Stone, granite, or marble are the best materials for this application but wood or porcelain are also available options. My pick here. By investing in these must-have chef gear items, you will not only enhance your cooking skills but also make your time in the kitchen more enjoyable. Remember, quality and durability are key when it comes to choosing chef gear items. So, take your time, do your research, and choose the items that best suit your needs and preferences. Happy cooking!
